CASH MONEY RECORDS DONATES OVER $250,000 To Pay Rent For New Orleans Public Housing Residents…+ Talk Buying Back The Projects. (Full Interview)

New Orleans brother Ronald “Slim” Williams and Birdman “Bryan” Williams want to do everything they can to help New Orleans residents during this pandemic.

The Cash Money Records founders pioneered modern music through a brand they started while in the projects of New Orleans. The two brothers are working closely with New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell, and Forward Together New Orleans to make this happen. The program will be available to families in need of assistance who are currently enrolled in the subsidized housing developments: Magnolia/CJ Peete, Calliope/BW Cooper, Melpomene, and St. Thomas.

We had the opportunity to interview Slim and Cash Money’s Business Manager Vernon Brown about their plans. I conducted the interview with Jasmine Yvette of Jhaze TV and it couldn’t have went any better!

One of my favorite parts of the interview was when Vernon was explaining how the plan came together. He mentioned that it started as a result of Birdman and Slim’s request to buy the public housing developments in New Orleans.

Their vision was to restore ownership to the residents who built the community. The interview also touches on the ongoing police brutality crisis and the importance of controlling our own narrative in the media. In addition to paying June’s rents, they donated $10,000 in grocery gift cards in partnership with iHeart Media and Q93. Slim and Vernon also discussed their future efforts in Healthcare, Education, & Housing. This is what we need in our communities.

We need more conversations bridging the gap between younger entrepreneurs and the legends who inspired them.
