Boil Advisory for Entire East Bank and Algiers Point, S&WB Announces

As of 2:37 AM CDT today, the Sewerage & Water Board (S&WB) has issued a boil advisory for the entire eastern bank of New Orleans and Algiers Point. This precautionary measure follows a significant drop in water pressure, potentially leading to contamination in the supply. New Orleans Emergency Sewerage & Water Board states the drop was recorded at 1:00 AM this morning.

The advisory affects the entire east bank of the city and Algiers Point, urging all residents and businesses to boil tap water for cooking and drinking purposes until further notice. Water should be boiled for at least one minute. S&WB teams have initiated sampling and bacteria testing, expecting results within 24 hours.

School facilities and businesses should use bottled or boiled water for food preparation and drinking. Residents are advised to avoid consuming water directly from the tap until the advisory is lifted. Health officials confirm that lightly contaminated water could potentially lead to stomach or intestinal illness, emphasizing the necessity of boiling.

Authorities are working swiftly to remedy the situation and will provide updates as conditions change. For real-time information, residents can follow the Sewerage & Water Board’s social media channels or visit the official website.

After the advisory is lifted, it is recommended that all customers flush their water systems by running cold water for several minutes to clear any residual contaminants. S&WB is
