University Medical Center nurses protest outside New Orleans facility demanding improved workplace safety measures
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Nurses at University Medical Center in New Orleans held a demonstration on Monday, voicing their concerns regarding workplace safety and alleging an increase in attacks by patients.
The demonstration comes in the wake of a recent declaration of an emergency at the hospital, where nurses stood outside demanding the implementation of improved safety measures. The nurses articulated their dissatisfaction through signs and speeches, drawing attention to the necessity for safer working conditions.
Additionally, a representative from the local nurses’ union highlighted the urgency for protective measures, including comprehensive security training and an increase in the nursing staff. The union stressed the need for hospital management to address these issues to protect healthcare workers and ensure a safe environment for both staff and patients.
A statement from the UMC stated their commitment to meeting with the nursing staff to discuss their concerns and to collaborate on finding effective solutions.
