NEW ORLEANS (NGZ) – Louisiana State Troopers arrested 12 people in connection with last year’s Mardi Gras ride out. They have also issued 60 warrants for people using dirt bikes, ATVs, and motorcycles rode illegally.
The ride out took place on Mardi Gras last year, and cause confusion around I-10 west on Orleans Avenue.
There is an ongoing issue going on between the city and it’s riders. Personally, we don’t feel like this is the answer. NOLA Bike Life riders are predominately young black males, and doing a mass sweep for an event that occurred a year ago is almost inhumane.
This can be argued as discrimination if you look at it from a social perspective. We definitely agree that the safety of our streets are important., but these aren’t violent crimes being committed.
The media is also going out of their way to demonize a hobby that has roots in American history. When skaters were out of control in New Orleans they built a skate park instead of arresting everyone with a skateboard.
We’ll update you as the story develops.
