August Alsina and The Product Series

The Product III: StateofEMERGEncy and the predecessors of it

“The Product” was the official release from August Alsina that his growing fan base had been waiting for. At the age of 19, August had got the support of DJ Scream for his debut mixtape. August’s brother Melvin LaBranch III, was a victim of gun violence, and a huge part of August’s life. On his brothers birthday April 15,2012 he debuted his first project titled “The Product”. The mixtape got an  endorsement from Juvenile, saying “August Alsina is the best R&B voice from New Orleans”.  The Hot Boyz/ Drake cover “Ode to My Project Chicks” is one of his songs that his fan base has loved since we first heard it.

In May 2013 he put out the sequel project, “The Product 2”, hosted by DJ Drama this time around.  At this point in his career he was achieving higher levels of success and notoriety. August’s follow up EP”Downtown:Life Under The Gun”, included many of the popular songs that were featured on “The Product 2”.  Particularly his smash hit song “I Luv This”, which led to a remix with Cash Money CEO Birdman, and another version with fellow singers Trey Songz, and Chris Brown.

The recent release of his third album, “The Product III: StateofEMERGEncy” is his first full length project since his hiatus from music due to his auto immune disease illness. The album is 27 tracks long and features some of his frequent collaborators, like Yo Gotti, Juicy J, and fellow NOLA artists Lil Wayne. This album along with the accompanying documentary, and Interview with Angela Yee, gives his fans a much deeper look at who August really is, and what he’s gone through.
