Only one New Orleans artist took home a Grammy on Sunday at the 2020 Grammy’s Award Show, St. Augustine High School graduate, PJ Morton. Morton is an American musician, singer, songwriter and record producer.
Since 2012, Morton has been one of the keyboardists, alongside Jesse Carmichael, for the pop rock band Maroon 5. With this grammy, Morton will be adding this second grammy to his collection with Best R&B song for “Say So,” featuring JoJo.
Also there was a brief clip of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band located on a satellite stage in the Staples Center. The band was able to show the Grammys’ audience a small version of a New Orleans-style celebration-“second line”.
Soon afterwards, the best new artist award was handed out. A camera cut to Grammy nominee Tank and the Bangas and front-woman, Tarriona “Tank” Ball.
