“Sorry 4 The Wait” 9th Year Anniversary

Lead up to “Sorry 4 The Wait”

Early on in 2011 many fans of Wayne were anticipating for the long awaited album “Tha Carter IV”. The project suffered a multitude of push backs and delays by Cortez Bryant in attempts to finalize the masterpiece it would become. On June 14, 2011 Young Money President Mack Maine would go on to announce to the world via twitter that “Lil Wayne mixtape “SORRY 4 THE WAIT” coming soon!!!”. The mixtape was meant to appease his fanbase for the most recent release delay of “Tha Carter IV”.

Lil Wayne released a single for the mixtape, five days before the entire project would be available. On the single “Tunchi’s Back” he gave fans a taste of what was to come, by killing Meek Mill’s popular song and beat “2Pac Back”.

On July 13th 2011, “Sorry 4 The Wait” was officially released. There were many stand out tracks on the tape that many felt had a similar energy to his earlier mixtape “No Ceilings”. Wayne’s “Rollin’” freestyle is one track that you can still hear getting played in clubs on any given day, while his fanbase will always remember Lil B’s shocking verse to say the least. On the final rapping song “Inkredible remix” Lil Wayne shines the spotlight on some other rappers from his city of New Orleans. Thugga, Raw Dizzy, and his newest signee at the time Flow made the most of the chance, having verse’s arguably close to Wayne’s verse.

What started out as a simple project to soothe over an album delay ended up being a mixtape that many have loved for almost a decade since its release.
